  • How to export from Avid -> Sorensen Squeeze -> Wirecast

Posted by Heikki Jalakas on December 17, 2010 at 3:02 pm

Our goal is to produce streaming video to a QuickTime Streaming Server.
We are editing our video in Avid Media Composer (v 5.0.3). When we export directly from Avid everything works great when we import the file into Wirecast, but the file gets rather large and the quality isn’t perfect.
But when we try to export through Sorenson Squeeze 5 we get a smaller file that looks good in Windows, but it doesn’t play in Wirecast (sound only, rare still pictures)

    Here are the settings we use in Sorenson;

    MPG 768K
    Stream Type: Streaming (hinted)
    Total Data Rate 416 kilobits/sec
    Video:
    Codec: Main Concept H.264
    Method: 1-Pass VBR
    DataRate: 360 Kbps
Max Data Rate: 160% 576 Kbps
    Frame Size: 480×272
    Frame Rate: 1:1
    Key Frame: Every 300 frames
    AVC Profile: Baseline

Has anyone got a clue what we are doing wrong?

[Heikki Jalakas] “we import the file into Wirecast, but the file gets rather large and the quality isn’t perfect. “

I’m sorry but this doesn’t make sense. Wirecast can’t make a file look larger. There’s no information regarding what you’re exporting out of Avid. Wirecast handles iFrame codec in Quicktime .mov formats best. Those files will be large but easy to decode.

Also try exporting out of Squeeze in H.264 .mov extension. Keep in mind Wirecast will decode and then re-encode the file so you need a very high quality export.
