How to edit this in an efficient and co-worker friendly manner.
Hi,
I’m having trouble figuring out how to achieve a goal. In want to edit various bits of a 1 hour piece. the 1 hour consist of various shots of interviews and shows. During some interviews the participants talk about various things and to add to that i’ve decided that i’d like to go for a splitscreen thing here and there. In this manner I feel I could add to the story that the person is telling. Buuut, how can I do this in an efficient manner? Since I already have my 1 hour and the sound editor guy is wanting to start work on the .Wav files and i’d hate to cause trouble by editing the video in such a manner as to shorten certain pieces (or lengthen them) this could cause trouble for his audio work.
Right now i’m think that I’d save the shots for splitscreen until AE and firstly just move the main footage in Pre.More precisely: Imagine a piece of footage of an interview with 1 person. This person falls neatly in the central 3 boxes of a 9 box grid (rule of thirds grid). What I could do in Pre is use auto-bezier keyframes to move this person’s footage to the side (not letting a shred of this person fall of the screen area) and thus make room for some splitscreen bits to add to what he or she is saying. Later I would de-noise the footage, export it and enter the film in to AE where I’d add the extra footage to the splitscreen areas and do some correction/grading work etc.
Sound like a plan?
Your thoughts?
PS: this might be a bit of a noob question but the point is not so much: how do i splitscreen but more a: how do i do this without ruining the current hour we have.
