How to edit AVCHD .MP4 from Sanyo Xacti HD1000
Hi,
I’m pretty sure this is a common question, but I have yet to find a definitive answer on how to edit footage from a Sanyo Xacti HD1000 in FCP 6.03…
I recently picked up one of these cool little cameras because of it’s form factor and for pickups for docos etc where footage doesn’t have to match the normal HD flow I use. Ideally I’d like to be able to edit the 1080i 30fps and the 720p 60fps in FCP easily, but apparently there is or was some sort of codec issue with this particular flavor of h264.
I heard there was a Quicktime incompatibility issue but I am using the latest Quicktime 7.4.x or something (whatever the latest updates are) and I am hesitant to use an older version of QT to not screw up my other FCP projects.
Quicktime player could not playback these .MP4 files from the camera -but I did install avc1decoder 0.76 and now QT can play them back ok I think – but I still can’t see them in FCP.
Does anyone have a good workflow for these kind of files? If I have to convert to a different format that’s ok, because I expect to deinterlace the 1080i stuff anyways and also possibly run a chromatic noise filter on them anyways since the Sanyo quality isn’t that great unless you have daylight or a very well lit set (though that’s ok for me for what I’m using this cam for).
Any suggestions on getting the footage to work in FCP or an intermediate format would be appreciated. I also may need to use these in FCP HDV 1080i 50 projects so I might need to convert to 25fps as well. What’s the best way to do that? AE, Compressor?

I have tried MPEG Streamclip, and would like to know your thoughts on the best settings in Stramclip and how they correspond to sequence settings in FCP.
When I put transcoded codec in the timeline it takes forever to render.
I have recently upgraded to FCP 7.

Try converting to AppleProResHQ in mpeg streamclip. If the playback is still jerky, you can convert to dv instead and reconnect to the original high quality material at the end. Just make sure that the exports match the master clips in terms of duration and name.

Finding an interesting twist to this that I’m not quite sure about. I’ve looked around but don’t see it on the boards.
I have .mp4 footage from the Sanyo VPC-FH1 (H.264, 1920×1080, 59.94fps, 25mb/s).
I’m getting stuttering playback in the viewer in FCP (6.0.6), but no stuttering in Quicktime Player. Why would this be?
I’ve since transcoded to ProRes & it’s fine. Just curious, as I thought FCP and QT would have the same result in this case.

I’m new at HD editing (lots of miniDV experience) and I’m having problems. Shooting on a Sanyo Xacti HD2000 onto its SD chip. Camera setting: FullHR: 1920×1080 60 FPS HR
I’m importing the video into FCP 6.0.6 directly from the chip. It shows up as an MP4 file. When I run it in FCP, it stutters and sometimes freezes. The guy at the Apple store told me to load Perian. I did, but that doesn’t appear to have helped. It has been suggested that I transcode my files. What do I transcode them into, and how do I do that? I could also reload them from the chip with the proper settings if that is faster (and that’s what I’d do with future video). What should my settings in FCP be?
