  • How to do this random floating and moving text effect

Posted by Kenley Michel on August 23, 2018 at 4:59 pm

About 3 years ago I made this video on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVcV3wb5Q-0 and used a tutorial to make the random moving floating letters in the intro and rest of the video. I wish to recreate a video like this again so can someone please help me find a tutorial for this exact or better effect please ☹ I haven’t edited in over a year and miss it and have researched this for weeks now.

My best guess at approximating this would be to use CC Particle World.

    1. Create a nested comp with a letter per frame. You can use a single layer and keyframe the source text
    2. In your main comp, add CC Particle World to a layer
    3. Set Producer > Radius X,Y & Z to be between 1 and 2
    4. Set Physics > Velocity to 0
    5. Set Physics > Gravity to 0
    6. Set the Particle Type to be Textured Square and use the letter comp as the Texture Layer
    7. Set Particle > Texture Time to Birth (I think)

You’ll have a bunch of letters in 3D space.
