Above is a link to the new Wimbledon 2012 promo.

I’m just curious everyones thoughts on how it was done? Was it done in after effects or what other likely software was used?

Its not an effect that hasn’t been done before already in movies (harry potter etc) but the the exact techniques used and combined I’m curious of..

    cheers

i can think of two possibilities: either it is done with a bit of motiontracking, some expressions and LOTS for manual work…

or it is done in a 3d-software (maya) with the text as textures or instanced paricles… and still a lot of work…

but actually, i have no idea…

I would say a lot of motion tracking using mocha for the words on the person:

Then possibly Particular and/or video of real particles:

sounds like what I was thinking. Wondering how much is still manually done though. can’t think of an expression that would do enough work to stop the manual work enough for a fast worflow on this?

Although mocha would have helped a bit, I actually communicated with the artist who did this spot and it sounds like they did mostly manual process.

Wow in that case massive kudos to them as that surely would have taken some serious man hours to tweak?

Was it done in after effects then? or maya?
