I just did an interview and directly behind the subject’s head is a vase. I’m still kicking myself for not seeing that the top of it appears to be coming out of her head, but I didn’t see it when I interviewed and shot her. This was a one shot interview and I have to make this footage work, yet the vase out the top of her head is unacceptable. I tried making a mask the color of the wall and changing the shape as she moves her head when she talks, but it’s totally obvious looking. I’ve got AE 6.5 and am not terribly well versed in using it beyond the basics. I have to make this footage look right–any suggestions for how to make the vase top disappear and look as if it wasn’t there? Thanks in advance–

I’d try the clone stamp tool.

A search for “clone” on the AE Support page, reveals several tuts:

It really depends on how her hair looks with the cloning.

Or maybe you’ll have to roto the top of her head and drop a copy of the wall behind once the vase is removed. Sounds like a tedious job, but maybe you’ll get lucky.

Hopefully some else has a better idea.

Can you key out the vase? Maybe you should try that first.

Thanks a lot for this reply. I actually did try the clone tool and was able to improve the situation by cloning out the very top of the vase which was the most distracting part, but as she moves her head more of the vase is revealed, so it is still distracting. I’m not sure how to keyframe the cloneing so it doesn’t just pop onto the screen where I put it after moving the timeline marker. Do you know?

Also–don’t know how to key something out–particularly when the shape of it changes over time as she moves her head in front of it. Suggestions?
    thanks

Can you send me a still picture – maybe you can use a keyer and key out the complete vase – depends on it
