  • How to Compare the two different tonal scales 0-100 versus 0-255

I have a stock agency that requires all of my pictures have a black and white point of 10 for black and 250 for white. As most probably know, this was the most common way of adjusting your black-and-white points in the past, but today I’m seeing options in software that only go 0 to 100. When using software that uses the 0-100 scale, how do I know the equivalent of 250 on the 0-100 scale and the same for the black point of 10 on the 0-100 scale? I’ve been searching for an answer to this question for several years and can’t find anybody to enlighten me. I’ve come here due to the high quality users on this forum. Hope you can help me out.

    250 * 100 / 255 = 98,03

    10 * 100 / 255 = 3,92

There’s no need to be rude.

The black-and-white point is a setting in image editing software that determines the darkest and lightest colors that are represented in an image. In the old 0-255 scale, a black-and-white point of 10 means that the darkest color in the image is represented by the value 10, and a black-and-white point of 250 means that the lightest color in the image is represented by the value 250.

In software that uses the 0-100 scale, the black-and-white points are scaled down so that they range from 0 to 100. A black-and-white point of 10 on the 0-100 scale is equivalent to a black-and-white point of 3.92 on the 0-255 scale, and a black-and-white point of 250 on the 0-100 scale is equivalent to a black-and-white point of 98.04 on the 0-255 scale.
