how to change the pixel aspect ratio of MANY events?

Click the first clip, open Pan/Crop, change it to the desired PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio), close it and Copy it.
Click the next clip, shift-click the last one (to select all of them), right-click any of the clips and select “Paste Event Attributes”.
All clips should now have the same PAR as the first one.
This tip will work only if you have no other FX applied to any clips, especially the first one, as it pastes everything that has been applied to the first one and will overwrite any FX already applied.
If you already have FX applied to them, then you’ll have to do it one by one 🙁

I’m evaluating Ultimate S and was able to use one of it’s feature to do this without adding a custom Pan/crop to the event.

I was wondering if there is a way to change the properties only (not adding a pan/crop) to many events at once.

In Ultimate S Pro go to the Audio Tools tab or Visual Effects tab depending on the type of event you want to change and you will see the Change Event Poperties tool that will change any properties on any events that are selected in a single click. Here is the one for video events that includes changing the Pixel Aspect Ratio.

Note that the checkboxes are have three states: on, off, and ignore, so that you can set some attributes while not affecting others.

I am working on a user guide for an application, that must have a custom sized of 913×580. The video is ready, but I am stuck at rendering. All the events are sized accordingly. The display as well as rendering are 472×330

How/where can I change that on Vegas ?

You project should be set to 913×580 and you’ll need to make a custom rendering template at 913×580 otherwise you will never get 913×580.

Sorry for not providing more details.

1. My project settings already says 913×580, but it looks like I cannot use custom aspect ratio. There is a dropdown list that contains only standard ratios.

2. It’s an application userguide recorded using camstudio. The events (clips and images) are sized correctly to begin with, but I didn’t pay attention to it at first. I edited the entire userguide movie, and just before rendering I set the events and project sizes. Now, both preview and render are broken.

To customize your project settings, open the Project Properties window and click the Match Media Settings icon (top right – looks like a folder).
Browse to the folder containing the footage, click any one of them and click Open.
You’ll see that the Properties window settings now match your footage.
Save this as a template if desired.

Your pixel aspect ratio should be 1.000 (Square) for any custom settings.

Consider it a lesson learned. You need to set these things before you start editing. If you did any cropping you’ll have to fix it one by one.

1. You can tell I am not very experience with Vegas, right? Anyway, I didn’t get at first the meaning of pixel aspect ratio. Normally aspect ratio is used for the entire frame, not a single pixel. Of course it needs to be 1. Thanks for that.

2. I am also new on COW and have uploaded the image too quickly, thinking it doesn’t show until my post gets approved, skipping the embedding step as instructed at the bottom.

3. Apart from pixel aspect ratio of 1, I have tried everything suggested (after reading many many threads) to no avail. The “Track Motion…” button on the track’s control panel (see attachment) eventually did the trick.

So, if anybody else comes to this post discussion – here is another object to pay attention to. My thanks to Eran Vered for this.

The frame size looks good now both on preview and rendered file.

However, I am stuck with another issue: it renders only the first 16 seconds (out of 4 minutes). Any idea?

I got it. It ends at the max file size of NTFS.

The question now is: what kind of compression to use without breaking my frame size ?

Oh, rendering seems to be an area of knowledge of its own !
