  • How to change the format settings of a sequence AFTER the editing on FCE?

Posted by Pascal Renaud on July 7, 2009 at 9:40 am

    Hi all!

Sorry to ask a question about FCE on a FCPro blog, but I can’t find anywhere the answer to this question!!!
I just got FCE and did an editing without taking care of the presets.

Here you can see how appear the presets in the Browser:

My sequence presets is: Pixel Aspect: NTSC-CCIR 601; Compressor: DV/DVCPRO-NTSC; Frame Size: 720×480; Video Rate: 29.97fps.

But my original video files have those presets: Pixel Aspect: HD (1440×1080); Compressor: Apple Intermediate Codec; Frame Size: 1440×1080 Video Rate: 25fps.

When I put the original video files in my sequence they were extremely reduced and with very bad pixel quality. NOW I understood that if I want to start a new project I have to use an easy setup corresponding to my original video files (in this case: Apple Intermediate Codec 1440x1080i50).

But how can I do to change the settings of my existing sequence?
I worked a lot on this editing and I don’t want to start all over again just because I was in the wrong presets. It must be a way to simply change it and to keep my work.
I have heard that on FinalCutPro it is easy to change it but I can’t find the function on FCE.

    Please help me

    Thanks in advance!
    Best regards

Make a new sequence with the proper settings. Copy your dv sequence to the AIC sequence.

now here’s where it gets tricky. DO you have a lot of key framed moves and such on your timeline to the ‘Motion’ tab?

What version of FCP are you using? In FCP 6 when editing a clip that is a different format than the sequence it is being added to, it will askk you if you would like to change the sequence to match the clip’s settings.

Have you already made your edits? if so then you can change the current sequence settings by choosing “Sequence” from the top drop down menu and then choose “settings”. Just match the parameters to your captured clips. Or select all clips in your sequence and choose “Edit” from the top drop down menu and choose “copy”. Then change your easy setup to match your captured clips. Then create a new empty sequence and paste your clips into the new sequence. You may need to remove the scaling that was previously done.

    Hi Jeremy and Matthew!

Tom told me to do that: “create a new sequence in the correct format. Then copy and paste the contents from the original sequence into the new sequence. The clips will all be in the wrong format so you will have to use remove attributes to put them back into their original state. Any motion effects you created will have to be redone.”

    And it fortunately worked out!

    Thanks for your prompt answer!

    Best regards,

    Pascal
