How to change length of Preset in AE7
Posted by Captain Mench on May 31, 2006 at 12:04 amI’m confused. I want to keep the same speed as set up by a 5 second default (it seems) background preset.
What’s my best way of increasing the time to say 60 seconds?
Thanks,

May 31, 2006 at 3:46 amThe easiest way is to loop the keyframes. Ensure that your timeline and layer are set to the desired duration. Then select each parameter’s keyframes and use the Expression flyout menu to sellect Property->Loop. There are four of them to choose from, select the last one in the list.

May 31, 2006 at 4:01 amThanks — I’ll give that a try. I don’t want it to loop the way it is… it isn’t seamless and would jump every 5 seconds.
I actually experimented with hitting the U key to see what was actually keyframed then changing the 0 x XXX cycles to see if that wouldn’t expand it the desired length. Couldn’t quite get the speed right, but no biggie.
I’ll try the looping flyout after it renders!! Ugh!
Thanks.

My bad. If the movement isn’t seamless then things get a bit more tricky and is dependent on the actual parameters that are used. You’re in the right direction with the U key, but the UU shortcut key may actually be better in this instance where non-animating parameters may have an effect on the look and speed. Parameters like speed, or any physics-related parameters may not require keyframes to affect the speed or velocity of an effect.

I do find it odd that these new motion presets only come in one timebase flavor. Thought they’d at least make the backgrounds 30 – 60 seconds.
Thanks though.

They make life easier and more time to spend with the kids… but I’ve spent a lifetime YELLING at people who want plugins for things I’ve spent HOURS/DAYS developing for a single use — now here they are… for all us simpletons to use and abuse.
