  • How to capture footage from Sony Z1E to FInal Cut Pro?

    Hi there,

I am trying to capture some footage from my Sony Z1E to Final Cut Pro 6 and I can’t work out how to do it!

I have searched long and hard on the internet to find a simple tutorial that can direct me but no luck.

I was filming in HDV 1080 50i on to mini DV tape. I have the camera connected to my MacBook Pro via Firewire 400 and the blue ‘HDV’ light on the Sony is on. In my final cut pro sequence I can see that it is picking up the audio from the camera. But when I go to ‘Log and Capture’ it doesn’t seem to recognize the video.

If someone could give me a walkthrough it would be much appreciated.

You need to first choose the HDV 1080i50 Easy Setup, so that FCP is told to look for an HDV signal. If it is set to DV, or anything else, it will be looking for THAT type of signal.

Can you give me more detail. I am still having trouble so a walkthrough would be much appreciated. I don’t even know weather to try and capture is VHS mode or camera mode!

I don’t understand why I am getting sound from the camera to the mac when it’s plugged in but no picture. I have chosen DVCPRO HD 1080i50. That is the only full HD 50i option I can see on the capture/input list but still no image.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Wrong setting. DVCPRO HD isn’t HDV. You choose the HDV 1080i50 Easy Setup.
