  • How to add/remove and move a cropped section of video.

I want to highlight a portion of a video and black out the screen on both sides. I can do this with the ‘Crop’ feature in Video FX but I need to do more than it seems to allow. I may need to follow a moving object so I need to be able to dynamically move this ‘highlighted’ portion left or right at times during the video. I may also need to make the ‘highlighted’ area wider or thinner during the video. Also, I may need to remove the black bars at some point and then go back to highlighting a portion of the screen again later in the video.

With the Crop feature in Video FX, I can only set the options one time and the cropping effect will run from beginning to end without the possibility of editing the effects dynamically as I have described above.

See the image I have uploaded as an example. This is the effect I need. However, I need to move the ‘highlighted’ area in order to follow a moving object (in this case a van) and at some point remove the black areas and go back to a full screen.

I thought I described my situation pretty clearly, so an image is probably not really needed. However, I did try and upload an image but it did not seem to work. I will try again.

Maybe you did, but I wanted to make sure. Use the Mask Function in Pan/Crop and Track the Mask.

With pan/crop you can use keyframing to change the pan/crop dynamically. YouTube has numerous video tutorials to help with keyframing.
