    I had thought there was a way to add materials to text in AE 6. I see material options under the text, but i do not see a place to actually add the material. I feel stupid…

    If you’re trying to add an image layer as a texture for the face of a 3D object, you can’t do that.

    See these resources for what the material options properties are for:

    Or if you want your Text to look 3D’ish with the Texture you Want use the ” Shatter Effect ” on the Texture Layer you want to use and change the follow settings :

    Under Shape
    ———–
    Patter = Custom;
    Custom Shatter Map = Your Text Layer;

    Under Both Force (1 & 2)
    —————-
    Force = 0;
    Radius = 0;
    Strenght = 0;

    and that pretty much it, you can play with the ” Extrusion Path ” for more 3D look there is some limitations to this so keep that on mind.
