  • How to add 400 stills to the AF timeline?

Posted by Harvey Zinc on September 9, 2008 at 7:44 pm

I’ve got 400 still frames from a time lapse sequence I’m trying to build. I’ve imported them into AE (CS3) but I can’t figure out how to put them on the time line as a sequence of 1 still per each video frame. When I put them on the time line they stack up as if there is only 1 frame of video with 400 layers?

There must be a way to automatically put the 400 stills on the timeline as a sequence of 400 video frames but I haven’t been able to figure that out?

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Harvey

When you import the images, check the box that says “Image Type” Sequence in the import dialogue box.
This will essentially treat the images as a video file.

*where I typed “Image Type”, AE would display “jpeg,” “targa,” “psd,” etc. dependent on what type of image sequence you are importing.

a quick note, for AE to able to recognize your files as an image sequence they need to be named in sequence.

    For example: image001, image002, image003, etc.

    Thanks Jason,
Your info helped me sort it out. One of the steps I finally understood and tried was to select the folder containing the 400 stills to be imported and then selected only the 1st file within that folder. That seemed to allow AF to assume all the other files were part of the sequence.
    Thanks again.
    Much appreciated,

Yo – Just wanted to say a really big thankyou for helping me out with that, been driving me nuts. Didn’t seem to be anywhere that explained it.

    On with the animation!
