    Hi

I was wondering if you could help me with sony vegas,
im new to the program, and I want to learn how to edit footage
    for example:
while the footage is playing, i’d like the clip to zoom in and do an effect such as
‘light rays’ then zoom out again
but everytime I try to do this I end up doing it to the WHOLE footage,(which makes the whole clip zoomed in to one spot) and not just a certain part of the footage.

The Vegas FX have KEY FRAMES which make doing FX on certain parts of a clip very easy. First place the FX on the clip THEN set the FIRST key frame to the time you want the FX to happen, move down the FX timeline and set the next keyframe for where you want the FX to stop. Same with the pan/crop for the zoom. You can also split the clip you want the FX and zoom on as it will probably be easier to work with since it would be a smaller clip.
Play around with it I think you’ll find it to be pretty easy to do. KeyFrames are you friend 🙂

You can ‘split’the clip by placing your curser at the beginning of the section you want zoomed and push the S key. Then do the same at the end of the section. You will have split your event into 3 events. And as stated it is sometimes easier to work with a shoter segment.
