  • How much space needed for FCS 3 [I already have 2 installed]

Posted by Max Frank on January 17, 2011 at 7:34 pm

    Hi,

Apologies if this has been asked before…

I already have FCS 2 installed on my Macbook Pro.

I want to install FCS 3 – but some questions:

    1. Can I just install the STUDIO upgrade part, and not the assets?
[I already have all the Soundtrack Pro/Motion, etc assets installed].

    2. If I’m able to just install the Studio upgrade [and not the assets], how much hard drive space do I need for the new software?

    3. I have some archived projects that have Motion files embedded inside my FCP timelines – I assume Motion 4 will play nice with the Motion 3 files?

    4. I’m running OS X 10.5.8 [Leopard] – I don’t have to upgrade to Snow Leopard to run FCS3, do I?

    Thanks in advance,

    Wayne

    Hi Wayne,
Yes, you can run FCS3 on Leopard.
About the rest of the questions, the best is that you run the installer and select “Customize”.
The application will tell you how much space do you need before running the installation.

    Thanks Rafael,

So to confirm, can I can use the assets from FCS2 and not have to reinstall the assets from the FCS 3 disks?

    Tx,

You should never upgrade a Pro App, you should delete FCS2 and then install FCS3 fresh. Of course you need the old version’s serial number for this.

David Roth Weiss has a great article on going from one version to another somewhere on the Cow. (we so need stickies). If you can find it you should read it.

You can install without assets. I think the old assets works.

    David,
Michael Sacci above referenced me your upgrading article, but for the life of me I can’t find it on the pasture.

Can you or anyone else direct me to said article.

    Thanks,

    Wayne
