How is this achieved? I need serious advice PLEASE!
its how his text has that cool effect that appears at 7:29 in the vid, mine just duplicates the text as is but this I do not understand Ive done everything he does in the vid many times and it wont work, he must have not explained a part of this or something. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Your PolyFX are children of the splines, that is not right. Move them so they are below the splines but still in the extrude for each letter. That should resolve it.
