  How Edit Multi Clip Sequence of Transcribed Interview

  I have an hour long interview laid down on a sequence, five video clips and five second system synced audio clips. I’ve selected all the video and audio and Grouped them so the separate pieces maintain their position on the sequence, as I have a printed transcript marked up with time line references.

  I now want to edit the interview into my story, but am having trouble figuring out how.

  a)If I load this sequence into the Source Monitor, I can set ins and outs and drop the bits onto the timeline but see two problems.1)I can’t edit with the audio forms showing in the Source Monitor, and 2) on the time line the audio has a solid red line and no wave forms. What does the red line mean, have I lost my ability to add effects and fades to the audio track?

  b)If I Nest the original sequence into another sequence for editing, I have the same problem, I can’t see the audio wave forms down on the timeline.

  c)I believe logistics wise I really want to make sub clips from my interview footage, but you can’t make sub clips from a sequence, only
  original video files.I don’t want to sub clip the original five video clips as I don’t want to loose the master time code that is part of my transcript.

  d) I could export my five clip sequence into a new single video file, then bring that back and edit & sub clip. But I don’t understand what would be an efficient codex to export and then bring back in. The ones I’ve tried, Quick Time high quality, would take most of a day on my machine. Plus, this seems round about.

  There must be a simple way to handle this:)
