How does the BMD Decklink Extreme allow for 2k viewing?
Posted by Rick Turners on September 4, 2009 at 12:22 amI know that the Kona 3 crops the 2k material for viewing on a 1080 monitor.. how does the blackmagic show 2k on a 1080 display?

September 4, 2009 at 12:35 amHi Rick,
You can crop the output to HD or you if you have the right equipment hookup, monitor the entire 2K 2048×1556 frame without the need to crop on a 30″ monitor.
The hookup will be:
HD EXtreme -> HDLink Pro -> Dell / Apple / HP 30″ display
This will allow full 2K monitoring at full 23.98,24 and 25 frame rate at 2048×1556. Why crop when you can see everything 🙂

September 7, 2009 at 1:41 amThanks for the info Kristian. A couple of questions:
1) Does the Decklink or Multibridge scale the to 2K to 1080, as opposed to croppping?
2) Any thoughts about supporting “RED friendly” resolutions like 2048×1024? I think a lot of people want to view 2k at 2:1, and have little need for the full aspect of 2048×1556? I believe there are quite a few 2048×1152 monitors out there that would work nicely. Maybe that’s more of an HDLink question.
Thanks!

September 8, 2009 at 7:32 pmHello Kristian….
How do you set up the 2K @ 25fps mode on a HD Extreme?
In my FCP list, only 23.98 and 24 modes are selectable.
25fps is a must for Commercial Post since we shot at 25fps.
thanks!
