  • How do you Visually increase the Audio waveform display?

Posted by Brian Kingman on November 6, 2013 at 6:51 pm

    Hi,
I’ve researched this a bit but can’t find an answer. what I’d like to do is increase the audio waveform display without actually changing the volume (or Gain). I’m an Audio guy used to working in ProTools and I’ve found that certain terms and vernacular have different meanings in a Video oriented program such as Premiere Pro, than they do in an Audio centric program like ProTools.
so to recap, I would like to increase or blow up the audio waveform display (without actually “turning up the volume” if you will.) the purpose is so that I’ll be able to visually line up my stand alone audio to the audio that was recorded along with the video. (this is really basic stuff, but as I said… I’m primarily an Audio Guy.
    thanks for any insight.
Also, I suppose I need to do this in the sequence window so that I can compare the two tracks while they’re adjacent to one another.

Simply place your cursor over the track header and scroll the mouse wheel.

    Hi Steve,
thank you for the timely response (and sorry for my late reply). Just scrolling the mouse wheel over that area, doesn’t do it. What I did find was… in the source window while you’re looking at the “editing” workspace, when you select an audio file to the extreme right, there are two ‘Handles’ that, when you move them inwards, make the wave form larger. this is what I’m looking to do, but in the sequence window, when I have an audio file that is low level. There’s no processing, just a visual change….
    can it be done?
    thanks,

If you are talking about increasing the track height, the process I described works in Premiere Pro CC. You can also hover your cursor on the track borders and click and drag. You can even select the track, and use Ctrl+ or Ctrl-

    Here’s an example…

If you mean actually zooming in on the waveform, the resize handles that you use on the Source Window are also at the very bottom of the Timeline Window. Or, you can just make sure the audio track is targeted, and simply press ‘+’ or ‘-‘ to zoom in and out.
