How do you purchase the rights to copyrighted music?
So how do you purchase the rights to a song to place in a production? I’ve googled it and I’ve come up with ASCAP if I want to perform the music in public and BMI if I own a venue and want to use music, but I didn’t find anything how how to purchase the rights to the music. I use local bands, although they are good, they don’t have the recognition of popular bands. Do I contact the artist? I would assume they have some sort of representative group. Has anyone purchased rights to music?

It can also be quick and cheap. Depends on relationships and how much they wanna be a part of your project.
