I to, like Chris, like “flocking a dead horse”. My first thoughts were of an old “flocked” christmas tree (50’s, early 60’s), so “flocking a dead horse” = a big fluffly white horse.

Wow – takes a hit at Mylenium right off the bat.
Okay, so I’ve come here for a long time, and I know to look at the archives (I have asked a question that was asked before, but hadn’t found a reasonable answer). Of course, my on-line persona isn’t much different that my my real one, so I’m not going to immediately jump into attack mode.
Anyway, is there a etiquette / new user guide here? I mean, the obvious “don’t be a jerk” should go without saying on a board like this, but many sites have something that kind of lets the newbie know what goes. It’s not a professional board, but FARK, for instance, has a FArQ (for frequently asked questions), as well as a dummy posting link, for those that want to make their text blink to practice with. (okay, so HTML is very nice when links are posted… I assume everyone can get there if they’re interested).
Anyway, just curious. I LOVE this board, and have learned so much by reading the threads, and following almost every tutorial on the board for the last 2 years, and having something that eased the new guy in might be worth it.
PS – I did like the “flocking a dead horse” – since it’s a craft item, in addition to describing dynamic behavior, it could be a fun new hobby on the farm!

For the longest time I thought Mylenium was a play Mylene, obviously on the feminine side. And then a couple of month back I saw your pic my friend. A bet of a shocker and maybe say disappointment. I guess it’ll have to be our little secret.

I may be new to this board but I’m not new to the idea of finding advice in a forum so I know that searching posts and archives can be more lucrative than posting right off the bat. I also know that searching for a general term like “ring” is only going to produce hundreds of links that have nothing to do with what I’m looking for; but, I searched anyway and the one post that I saw that had a title that specifically had to do with my question didn’t have any responses. So, when I did a search of the terms “scan lines” and “surveillance camera” I turned up far more specific results. Thankfully I posted my question and got an answer. As far as I’m concerned, I did the sensible thing. Having done the sensible thing, I’m justified in being frustrated with the responses.

Listen guy, this is the kind of negative chatter that causes problems for the COW. I agree that simply saing “check the archives” would at least say something, but with so many thousands of people stop in here day after day asking the same question. Over time it begins to sound like “are we there yet” on long family trips, so pardon the snippiness.

People from pretty much every major broadcaster in the world read this forum. You’re probably not going to increase your chances of gaining a meaninful career by biting the hand of the people that are probably going to be your future employers and can make you very rich. I’m constantly amazed at how many ask questions here that have been asked a thousand times before without ever checking the archives. The same people then seem to get their panties in a twist when all these busy professionals can’t drop their paying work to immediatly answer their question. all so they can add a cliche effect they copied from some MTV video and put it on their fraternaty hazing video for tonights keg party.

THE ARCHIVES ARE A WEALTH OF INFORMATION IF YOU BOTHER TO SIFT THROUGH IT. THERE’S MORE INFORMATION IN THE ARCHIVES THAN YOUD GET IF YOU SPENT 50K A YEAR IN FILM SCHOOL FOR 100 YEARS. READ THEM ALL AND THEN DONATE THE MONEY TO THE COW NETWORK, OR SEND A CHECK TO THE TUTORIAL MAKERS.
At least you didn’t ask how to make the gnarls barkly video for the 20th time this week. Why does everyone want to make their own bad version of something thats already been done and beendone really well? It’ll be the acid wash jeans of video effects within the next 6 months.
