How do you make masks appear outside the boundaries of their layer?
Hi there
Basically I have a layer that I have imported from photoshop which is basically a pole and I want a line to come out of this pole (in very basic terms). However in photoshop I cropped the pole so that it would be easier to manage and resize etc in after effects…but when I try render a stroke for a mask on that layer it only shows it up until the layers boundaries. I know I can make another a layer for the mask, but for easier management there must be a way that the mask can leave the boundaries of that layer? Im sure I saw a tut on it somewhere?
any help would be greatly appreciated!

Go to “Effect” > “Image Control” > “Grow Bounds”, and expand as necessary.
NOTE: Make sure to put this effect on top of any other effect you want it to effect.
