How Do You Gat a Log Sheet out of FCP 4.5
Hi there,
For the past couple months I have been laying off some pretty big timelines in FCP 4.5 and
everytime I’ve had to make a log sheet manually, which is no fun when it’s 2am in the morning!I know you can get a lot of information out of the EDL, but by the time I’ve copied and pasted it
all into Xcel, it’s no quicker!So can you export a LOG SHEET out of FCP 4.5? (or even 5.0)! If you can’t do it natively out of
FCP can you buy third party software at all????Thanks to anyone who replies!

What kind of information are you trying to put onto this log sheet? Reel numbers? Timecode? Music cues? Rights clearances? What? Knowing what your looking for will help us help you.

Not sure why you need to do copy paste to get the FCP EDL into Excel. The FCP EDL is a tab delimited file so you can open directly in Excel. I go in a slightly different direction pulling the FCP EDL into Filemaker (OS X Database program). My database program has a template/script to pull in only the information I need from the FCP exported EDL. This way I can create a storyboard for project archives, client review and track program edit history. The only thing that I haven’t been able to figure out is a way to get a thumbnail image from the FCP edit time-line into the EDL export file. If I could do that I would be a very happy camper.

I basically want to get:
Timecode IN
Timecode OUT
(That is of course for each piece of media on the timeline)
and a DURATION

File -> Export -> Batch List. Open resulting file with Excel. Delete any columns you don’t need.
