How do you create the look of dog sight (the colour) in FCP 7?
Hi, I’m currently grading a piece about dogs and there’s a few shots that they use the camera as the dogs POV.
I would like to grade it to match the way dogs see the world.
I know that they see it like this:

“They see the colors green, yellow and orange as yellowish, and they see violet and blue as blue. Blue-green is seen as a grey.”
BUT, how do I crate that look easily within FCP 7?

Three-way color corrector, applied differently to two identical video layers, then play with the opacity and blending mode fo the upper video track. Add some vignetting and/or fisheye distortion because their eyes are a little wider apart?

Sarah – I’m so glad I re-read your post. At first glance I thought you were trying to create the look of dog shit.
Anyway, that aside…
This is quite a technical grade, which needs to be done in stages. FCP is definitely not the ideal tool for the job so if you’re familiar with Color, Resolve or After Effects I’d head over to those first.
Essentially you just need to follow that colour spectrum graphic in the article you linked to.
- Desaturate green
- Change magenta hue to purpley-blue
- Desaturate and add yellow to red hue
That should get you pretty close, but I can tell you now that this will look pretty horrible! I don’t know how important it is for this production to remain true to the facts, but a little poetic licence might go a long way here.
