  • How do you create shadowed corners?

Posted by Chiara Sybesma on December 13, 2008 at 4:20 pm

I’m relatively new to After Effects so I’d appreciate any helpful feed back with a problem I’m having. I want to creat the look of a light at the center of my project, with all the corners shadowed out. This video from youtube has the look I’m aiming for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLMQt7CPWKk&feature=related . I’ve tried seting up a light in my comp but it won’t cast that sort of shadow in the corners of the background. Any ideas?

Your help is GRATELY appreciated! Thanks guys.

Do you mean a vignette? If so try adding a solid layer with a radial ramp on it with white at the center and black at the edges then composite using the multiply blend mode.

    Hey Chiara,

You can also create a black solid, then with the pen tool create a circle. Make the circle fairly large (almost comp size) and change the mask setting from add to subtract. Hit the f key and increase the feather property until you get the desired look you are going for. Hope this helps. C U 2 Morrow. : )
