  • How do we put a texture of annual rings on a stump?

Posted by Serge Boucher on December 10, 2019 at 9:58 pm

    Hello,

I tried different things: in the color channel of the material editor, I chose wood as a texture and then I checked the annual rings in the shader tab and tried to put it on the top of the stump but it doesn’t work no matter the type of projection I used. I tried different options of length and offset with the same result. It’s the same thing when I checked the legacy option instead of the annual rings option in the shader tab. I don’t know how to fix it. Help please.

    Thank you!

    Hi Serge,
In texture mode rotate the texture so that its Z axis is vertical. The axis of the rings is the Z axis of the texture, so in order for the rings to appear properly the Z axis of the texture needs to align with the Y axis of the stump.

From the Help menu (If you’re not familiar with accessing the Help menu, rt. click on “Annual Rings” in the shader properties and select “Show Help”) :

    Annual Rings

If enabled, the Wood shader will display growth rings that are arranged in concentric rings around the growth axis. This axis is the texture’s blue Z axis (main menu: Tools | Modes | Texture Axis. Move or rotate this axis if the growth rings should lie differently on the given object.
