  • How do they get 6 or 7 min videos to renders as WMV’s under 4MB

I’ve seen 6 to 10 minute WMV videos that are only 2 to 4 MB in size. If I render a 2 min project to WMV9 seems like the smallest I can get is about 32 MB.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

Three things determine file size – the frame size, frame rate, and bit-rate. (There are other factors but those are the big-three) Reduce your frame size to mpeg4 setting, reduce your frame rate by one half to 15fps, reduce your bit-rate to 250. See what you come up with in terms of file size. There are enough varibles to toy with that it’s best to encode 30 seconds exactly with any setting and use that as a bench-mark for file size and quality.

    Most all WMV’s I see are 320 X 240.

The reason your file is so big is that you are probably rendering to WMV in its default setting. If you check the drop down menu in the render box, you will see that there are numerous WMV rendering options based on the internet connection speed. Seeing how it is almost pointless to do video (except the most basic kinds) for Dial-Up, especially if it is longer than 2 minutes, I usually choose a minumum setting of 256k to get a decent file size. If you want more quality, choose the higher connection speed option, but the file size will often grow. As the other post said, you can tweak these settings even futher in the individual tabs for audio quality, video qaulity, etc.

To somewhat placate dial-up users, I usually render an audio file of the video for them to at least listen to.

    Good luck.

Thanks very much. It works great and I can see by tweaking other areas I can bring it lower but lose quality.
