I am new to this forum and thought maybe someone would be able to help me. I would consider myself to be an intermediate user of After Effects but I have not worked much with masks and when I have the concept has always confused me.

I have a locked down shot of a log cabin and I want to be able to mask the windows and then composite a layer of fire behind it so that it looks like the fire is burning inside the cabin. What is the best way to go about this? I just can’t seem to get the layers set up properly to achieve my goal. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks Dave! So simple but masks are my Achilles heel in After Effects. Any recommendations that point me to a an in depth, comprehensive tutorial or set of lessons on masks would be helpful if anyone knows of any. The tutorials I’ve been able to find are not detailed enough.

Thanks but I am beyond the basics. I am having trouble finding more in depth tutorials. I have gone through quite a few basic AE tuts. I do appreciate your help though.
