How do I make a 100 minute video (.avi) fit on one DVD at the best quality possible?
How do I make a 100 minute movie (.avi) fit onto one 4.7 gb DVD at the best “quality”* possible?
When I load my .avi into DVD Architect Studio it says that the disc space used = 6.4 gb or 135%. The settings I will use are mpeg-2 720/480 16:9. I know that I need to convert my .avi to mpeg-2 in Vegas Studio Pro 10. When I load a New Project (single movie) into Vegas Pro I can convert my .avi by clicking on File – Render As – and finally Save as type: mpeg-2.
These are my choices for templates:
Question #1: What NTSC choice do you suggest from the list above?
(DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen Video Stream?)When I click ‘Custom’ next to whatever NTSC video template I decide on, I’ll get these video choices:
There are a few things I can fiddle around with including:
• Checkbox for Prioritize quality over speed
• Video Quality bar going from low (0) to high (31)
• Variable Bit Rate (I know bit rate calculators like this one can help reduce my file output size)
• A bunch of check boxes and drop down menus that I really don’t understand
• FramerateQuestion #2 (multi-parter): I want great “quality”* and a smooth looking film. What would you suggest I fiddle with?
Should I:
-Check or uncheck the box for Prioritize quality over speed?
-Adjust the Video Quality Bar?
-Change the variable bit rate via predictions from a bit rate calculator?
-Any other checkbox or dropdown menu from the video and advance video custom settings?
-Drop the frame rate from 29 to something lower? (I actually don’t need to consider this but I would like to know for future situations)-My original .avi file is 23.976 FPS – I know that I would never raise a frame rate but is it ever worth it to change to 23.976 3:2 pull-down for a file that orignally has a framerate of about 23.976 or higher?
Question #3: Is there anything else that I might of left out in this post that you might suggest I do to make my video quality best as possible for my final DVD?

I would use the DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen sideo stream template. Then use a bit rate calculator to figure out what your Average bit rate should be to fit on a single 4.7GB DVD. Finally, check the Two-pass checkbox and you should be fine.
