How do I increase file resolution?
I’m working with a few videos for some home movies I’m editing with Vegas 9 software.
Now Vegas 9 can edit full HD clips (m2ts files), something my previous version of Vegas (vegas 7) couldn’t. So while my newer clips I can just use m2ts files with full 1280×720 HD resolution, I have older clips that are no longer on my camera and the only copy I have are the rendered mpg files from Picture Motion Browser, which are only 720×480 standard definition resolution.
There is obviously a very visible difference in resolution when editing, and I was wondering if there was a way to raise my SD clips to the full 1280×720 definition to edit with my newer HD clips.
I’ve tried rendering out the old files into new wmv files, with 1280×720 resolution set during rendering, but while it is bigger than before it is still visibly off, which makes a difference in editing. I tried setting “do not letterbox” but that only makes it worse.

What should I do?
You should order a 1TB external hard drive and back up everything that you shoot from this day forward because there is no way to get your HD video back. All you have now is low quality standard definition MPEG2 files and anything you do will make the quality worse, not better because it will require a re-render of an already lossy format. Unfortunately, this is a hard lesson to learn. You need to keep your cameras files just like you keep tapes in the past.
