How Do I Get European AVC Footage Into FCP?
I was just handed a pile of discs from Belgium to edit, and some of the footage is AVC and I can see it on Movist software as an MPEG-2 Transport Stream. I need to convert it but neither Compressor nor Episode is willing to do it. So how do I get this stuff into FCP? Here is the breakdown on the footage I see in MediaInfo:

BDAV: 627 MiB, 7mn 57s
1 Video stream: AVC
1 Audio stream: AC-3
1 Text stream: PGSVideo:

PGSNeedless to say, I need to edit up this stuff in FCP to our standards here in the US. Thanks for any suggestions you might have!

Just tried it and it doesn’t work either. I should mention I am using FCP 6.0.6 on OS 10.5.8. It’s an odd thing that I can see in Movist, but can’t do anything with it.

Have you tried Perian. It’s a Quicktime component so if it opens it, you’ll be able to export a ProRes file.

I have Perian, but when I try to open the movie in QuickTime, it says “This is not a QuickTime file.”

If it’s MTS or M2T, try something like Clip Wrap. Clip Wrap has two functions:
- It can simply put a QuickTime wrapper around the files or
- It can re-wrap and transcode to ProRes (and others)

I will try to see what the heck format it is first. Do you think it will work with 25 frame European HDV footage to take into FCP and edit it?

Or is there a HDV driver that I could get for FCP? Or is this what ClipWrap is. Now that I think about it, this isn’t the first time I have had trouble with HDV, if that is what this is.

What a dummy I am sometimes. I just downloaded the trial and it works great! I will now buy it, so problem solved! ClipWrap, Baby! Thanks! You gotta do something about those mumps though!

While the frame size suggests HDV, it seems to have been re-encoded using H.264. Is it a BluRay? I’ve had zero experience with BR, but the “BDAV” suggests that’s what the files are.
I’ll start looking for a surgeon to sort out my “mumps”. Recommend any? 🙂

Yes, this is my guess too, but this was not handed to me on a Blu-Ray but on a DVD+R with other stuff. Of course the whole thing came to me through several layers of people.
