  • How do I get an mp3 to load in Premiere CS3?

Posted by Steve Roberts on September 4, 2009 at 4:11 pm

I’ve read the posts that a wav is better and no loss of quality. That doesn’t change the fact that an mp3 is supposed to be allowed and it keeps saying “file format not supported”. I’ve tried a number of different rip sources at high and low bit rates so that’s not it. Suggestions? Thanks.

maybe it’s the way how you import the file.
a simple drag and drop into area on the left side where all my other project files and bins are located does it for me.

although i had similar problems with video files in the past where premere also complained with an “file format not supported” error where it shouldn’t

i fixed the problem by just renaming the extension to something i knew it would accept. in my case it was .avi

i just did a quick test and renamed an .mp3 to .avi – premiere still imported it without a problem and handled it just the way it’s supposed to.

    give it a try… maybe you’re lucky.

I had to convert .mp3 to .wav by a MP3 to WAV Converting software. But, still Premiere should take a mp3. I remember it taking them in past. Maybe MAC vs PC?
