How do I get a clip’s coloring to look like this (picture included) on FCP [newest version]

There’s a heck of a lot of blue added to the blacks. You could easily drop a 3-way CC filter on the clip and drag the left color wheel toward blue to get most of the same effect. A little goes a long way BTW.

There are a few other things going on in the example as well, but if I do the whole thing for you that takes all the fun out. Right?

I’d usually love to have ‘fun’ and mess around with the coloring, but right now is not the time since I need to finish this quickly. I already knew about the color corrector 3-way (I still appreciate that you answered) but the blue in it didn’t do much. I added color balance (shadows) and put some blue which helped a lot, and I also added some contrast. And I noticed that the picture had a little noise so I added a very little amount of noise. Yet it still looks nothing like it. I then added the normal CC to add some whites and mids, it helped, but still not much.

Any more ideas, please? I really appreciate it.

Everyone in this business is on a tight deadline, so your situation is not extraordinary Nouf.

It’s really impossible to provide the kind of help you want here. We can help lead you to the solution, but we can’t do your grading.

Plus, you haven’t even provided an example of what you’re working on, you only provided an example that you’re trying to match. If we can’t see what you’re actually working with we’d could go round and round all day about what works and what doesn’t.

Curves in Color are the way to get this look. Colorista 2 might do in FCP. FX Factory plugins don’t have this sort of color curve control

Nouf, Take a look at this tutorial from Stu Maschwitz; it goes largely for the same kind of look. It’s for Magic Bullet Looks, but can be done in Color (and somewhat with a 3-way corrector). Basically as David said – take the shadows blue (left wheel), but then counter by warming the mids and highlights to maintain the skin tones and provide color contrast. As Michael pointed out, this may be beyond what FCP will do on it’s own.

Colorista and Looks appear to be terrific programs – I’ve played with both on someone else’s computer. If I did a lot of editing or color work (and got paid to do it) I’d be into it for certain, but for now I stick with Color.
