  • HOW DO I DO THIS – Use video grabs as a postcard on a map, then animate in/out??

    Hi guys and girls,

I seem to have hit a bit of platue with my limited AFX skills, which is basically limited to compositing, 2D stuff and plenty of scaling. I havent touched the 3D stuff or the camera’s and I have a feeling that will be the answer to my question. So Im not asking a ‘how to’, Im asking, ‘what do I need to learn to be able to do this’? Hahaha.

OK, so heres what I have in my head. We’ve just shot some roadtrip footage. I want a scan of the map, then using video grabs to look like postcards placed at each of the towns we featured. I want to animate a van across the route we took (I know how to do this), but then zoom across the whole map and zoom in and out of these ‘postcards’ and obviously blending from video grab to real video. Does that make sense?

Not very original, but its what I need to do. I have a feeling this is done by animating the camera’s right?? Can some one point me in the right direction and ill delve into some books!!

Ive done stuff similar in the past, but the lazy way, ive used scans of sheets of polaroids and just keyframed the scale and position to get a similar effect. But seems now I need to position the grabs on the map, Ive got to get out of my rut and get learning again!

Any help would be GREATLY apriciated.
