  • How do I color correct just the top third of a clip without making another track?

    Posted by Elijah Lynn on March 18, 2009 at 2:57 am

    My main problem is that Primatte Keyer is so slow and I am keying 1080P HD twice.

    I havesome greenscreen footage and the head was dark and the white coat was bright(doctor). I put the clip on the timeline and a primatte keyer pro filter on it and made it a alpha travel matte. Below that I created a mask for the top third. Then below that I made a copy of the clip and again a primatte keyer pro filter on it.

    These 2 minute clips are taking 8 hours to render on my 8 core 3.2 Ghz (Primatte only uses 1 core). I just did a 4 minute clip and I am getting 17 hour render time! It finally got me thinking there may be a better way to color correct just one section of a clip without having to duplicate it.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Elijah,
    Inside FC and without duplicating layers I think that Colorista and ColorFinesse are the two available options.

    I haven’t even delved into Color yet. Is this easy to explain in a few steps the basic concept of doing that?

    Thanks Rafael. I will look into those as options.

    It does seem that so far I am at least not looking over something blatantly obvious.

    Hi Elijah,
    Have a look here;
    https://celluloidhope.wordpress.com/2009/02/02/plug-it-in/
    Download the Haiku plugins (Marcus plugins).
    There is one call “Face light” that may help you.

    Ok, I just patched up the whole clip and now my render time is slashed in half!

    This taught me a lesson and I will make sure to shoot the right way next time! It was tough with this camera because I had to shoot it on a HF10 with no full manual control plus the HF10’s LCD screen is a big fat lier! Everything looks so great on it when you are shooting.
