I’ve got a character who is running, and i’d like to change his outfit at a certain point without redoing the keyframing. I’ve got both outfits done in illustrator and have tried alt-dragging the 2nd outfit onto a duplicate of the 1st animation precomp but instead of pasting in place it paste whereever it wants in the frame.

I’m looking for this exact effect:

Maybe you could precomp the layer? Do the transition in the precomp.

This can happen if the resolution of your precomp and the 2nd outfit layer is different.

Instead of trying to replace the outfit with the precomp you should replace it with the output layer inside the precomp.

If it’s still creating problems you can change the anchor point property to bring it to the desired position without having to keyframe again.
