How do I add h264 codec
Posted by Dave Stalker on December 14, 2011 at 7:49 pmThe version of Vegas 8 I am running does not have h264 as a video format option for renders. It has h263, which looks terrible.
Where can I download an h264 codec, and how do I add it to Vegas?

December 14, 2011 at 8:55 pmWhat are you doing with the footage you want rendered as h264?
Vegas does not has this render option directly, but there are
excellent alternatives that’s available…i always use the SonyAVC
format.Steve Rhoden

December 14, 2011 at 9:26 pmFull res broadcast commercials. We work on Avid, but other stations cannot open spots with Avid codec, so we would like to run them through Vegas and output as h264.

December 14, 2011 at 11:32 pmYou can’t render Quicktime H.264 with Vegas, but you can buy Quicktime Pro and render uncompressed MOV out of Vegas and then convert it to H.264 MOV in Quicktime Pro.
Render as:
QT7 (MOV)
Default (uncompressed)
Frame Size – Custom 1440 x 1080, PAR=1.0Open with Quicktime

July 19, 2014 at 2:44 pmFor exporting to H264 I frameserve out of Vegas using Debugmode’s frameserver and encode to X264 using Virtualdub as I don’t like Sony’s default AVC encoding quality.
