How do I add a transition to my text without it affecting the video it’s attached to?

I can do it in some simple programs like pinnacle by just dragging it to the text in the timeline. When I do that in FCPX it affects the video too. HELP

    Thanks! Gary

Attach to the text to the primary story timeline by selecting the text generator and hitting q so that it sits on top of your video (or a gap).

That should let you put a fade or dissolve without affecting whatever is underneath it.

    Loren,

I’ll try that with some other transitions like ‘Earthquake’ Fade and Cross Dissolve are the only 2 that will work when I add it to my text.

    Thanks!

That didn’t work for me either… I even tried starting the project with a place holder and making it opaque and attaching the text to it. The Black Hole transition I added affects the video too

    🙁

Make the text clip a secondary storyline and your problem should be gone
