  • How do I add a moving light effect ONLY on the surface of a graphic text image?

I have created a 3d text graphic in photoshop and I would like to add a left to right subtle lighting effect in AE ONLY to the surface of this graphic file (as if the text face is subtly reflecting light from another source). Any ideas how?

Just apply the light effect to the text layer. If you have its background transparent, the light will not affect it. If the background is not transparent yet, use Photoshop to make it and go to After Effects.

    It’s easier than you think.

If the “Text Face” is a seperate layer, you might try CC Light Sweep. Tweak it to make it subtle.

Or you could make the layers 3D and click Accept Shadows under materials, add a light and tweak it.

Depends on what you mean by “as if the text face is subtly reflecting light from another source”.
