  • How can you reconform correct grade VERSIONS?

Posted by Toby Tomkins on March 4, 2012 at 2:05 pm

Is there a way to use ColorTrace (or XML import to an existing session) to not only copy over the grades, but have the correct/current VERSIONS of a grade copied over to a new edit??

I.e. how can I migrate grades from cut1 to cut2 and have the version activated in cut1, activated in cut2.

    Thanks!

it’s not possible as far as today ..

i wish that creating session with handles or importing new XML (that have a bit of slip here and there ) would import the versions currently in use in the master session ..

Concur whole-heartedly on this. Its causing me a lot of wasted time in sessions with clients asking why all our previous work isn’t showing up when we reconform or add in new clips etc. (of course everything is there, it just has to be manually selected… not so fun). Can lead to some very nerve-racking “QC” sessions if there’s last minute changes…

Yeah, its not exactly the same as “Reconform” was in COLOR, is it, where all 4 “hot” grades would get re-attached. My pet peeve is the addition of phantom dynamics that may correspond to a changed handle, or in point, or not.

    Arrgh!

I was just about to ask this very question. I have a reconform of a feature to do and this means Da Vinci Resolve doesn’t do reconforms.

    So this is the workflow:

    click conform page
    load old reel
    click color page
    find clip
    note version
    click conform page
    load new reel
    click color page
    find clip
    check version

    repeat 1500 times

Anyone have a workround that’s even a click per cycle quickly please tell me and i might get to see my family by Easter

    I’m about to do you a big favour and save you a lot of time (-: so next time you’re in Soho, London, buy me a pint (-;

What I worked out you can do recently is: duplicate the old project, and in the color tab, click on the timeline and select Batch Copy. This will un-connect clips of the same take but create master versions of the grade you had for each clip (but you can later create groups of these if necessary, which I think is much less time intensive than your method). You can then import the new XML and everything should match up with the correct versions and I believe the other versions are still there. It’s been a couple weeks but I think this is the method (it definitely involves batch copy). Duplicate projects before doing anything! (right click on a project/session and click save as to duplicate.

Let us know the exact method if you work it out! It was a lifesaver on ‘Ill Manors’, Plan-B’s debut feature film that I’ve just finished! (-:

    Good luck!

    Thank you Toby

The drinks are definitely on me!

It works a treat and is actually more effective than you said because all the source clip links remain

    Workflow:

Session A (old conform)- batch copy
Session B (reconform) – batch unlink, batch link

err, that’s it (you can batch link session A if you like to it’s back to ‘normal’)

We should have a London Colourists social and I could buy yu that pint. In the meantime I’m going to bump this solution to the top

    Thanks,
    Michael

Oh yeah! Dont think I tried batch link. Double check the right versions are active though, not just the version number from the 1st use of the clip etc.

A London colourist social would be great, but it would have to around 10pm lol

Failing that drop me an email next time you’re near Goodge St and I’ll collect on that pint!
