How can I simulate a heart monitor?
I am in need of knowing how to make a heart monitor in after effects. I have AF 5.0 (old, I know) is there anyway of doing that. it is needed for a Television bumper…

an easy way is to google image search for ‘ekg’ find an image that will work for, then take that into ae, and redraw it with a ‘mask’ using the pen tool. once your vector path is drawn, use 3d stroke (from trapcode.com) to animate a stroke over the path. then maybe add some glow to add to the effect.
if you don’t have 3d stroke, you could use stroke, but then you’d probably need to animate a linear wipe effect or two to make it seem like it draws on and fades out as it draws. at that point you may just be able to create a matte from the image you found on line and wipe that on and off to create the animation.

if you dont have 3d stroke, i would suggest creating some graphics (your heart beat line) in Photoshop or Illustrator and animating masks on that graphic in AE. You might also make the graphics in AE if it works for you. Add a little feather to your mask and animate it across your graphic. i hope that helps a bit. lets go Wings!
