How can I remove all images from a shot except for anything with a specific color?
I’m trying to isolate a red in a shot, but not to make everything else black and white. I want to basically do a reverse key out if possible. Select the red (animated text, in this case), and remove everything else from the show. I can key out each other color from the shot with Vegas, but it’s too messy. It just doesn’t work and there’s no point on the high and low threshold that will key everything else out and keep the red. Or I have to reduce the key out so much that the other colors are in there.
I did a mask over each individual letter, but you still see the black and white of the letters before the text animates.
Is there any way to do this?
The Secondary Color Corrector doesn’t quite work, either. The text is animated as if you are seeing it being handwritten on screen, so instead what you see is the finished text at the end when you use this with the Select Effect Range tool. I could keyframe a pan across the screen, but it’s not the same as seeing the writing fill in as if written by hand.

Do you want the the non-RED items removed, leaving WHITE or TRANSPARENT?
Could you post a “still” with which to experiment?

Exactly, I want them removed so that everything else in the shot is gone. White or transparent both work fine.
I ended up just faking it by using the Secondary Color Corrector and panning across the letters, but I still want to know how to do this.

I’m not quite sure what you’re asking. It’s got to show the text looking like it’s being hand drawn on screen.

And here’s the finished video I did. I ended up using Secondary Color Corrector, drew a mask around each individual letter, selected red, and used pan and crop to go from left to right. But it’s still not quite what I was trying to do.

Angelo? I have to ask, is this your original work that you are adapting? Or is it owned by somebody else and you are adapting for your own usage? If it is the latter then I’d start-over and do my own “words” and use what appears to be a sweep-reveal. It’s not “written”! But again, you need to aware of any further “rights” to that usage of the tag-line and if that is a copyright-ed logo. I’m just saying this so you can be made aware of the issues that could ensue – yes?
Notwithstanding your response to my first comments on “ownership”, and speaking in generalities, I’d try:-
A] Maybe a Difference Background treatment. If you have a Black and White without the writing then that would be a way to go forward.
or…
B] Using the Channel Blend to move as much of the Red Channel pixels into the Alpha Channel and alter the Blue channel – a lot of “blue” hides in the blue channel . . oh yes . . !
or…
C] Start-over and do your own graphic. It’s dead easy and most like will give you the least grief.
