In AE click on the output module. Choose whatever is selected (lossless.)
Then Make sure QuickTime is the choice at the top.
    Press format options.
    Is DNxHD available in QuickTime?

Just to let you know .. i took the decision to install the new CC version of premiere and ae. I will tell you if this working as soon as it is installed. I have another question for you.. promiss it will be the last one ! I did some 5DmkIII trials today shooting in H.264 and Dnxh HD via Hyperdeck shuttle 2. I was surprised cause the dnxhd images looked bader the h.264 : more noise, green color etc.. The DnxHD is supposed to have more color informations doesn’t it ? Thats why i don’t understand !
Thanks for your help again …

Two things – first, you probably ought to start a separate thread for a separate problem.
Second, if you have something set incorrectly or you’re using the wrong DNxHD setting, you’re files will look bad.

I know this is an old thread, but I figured out a work around, posting it here just in case someone else is searching.

I have a DNxHD .mov file that i needed to do some VFX to in after effects.

-File plays in VLC (maybe from perian install? Not sure)
-Doesn’t play in QT or Mpeg streamclip
-Can’t be imported into after effects

I downloaded the codec from Avid:
    https://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/download/en423319

-File now plays in QT and Mpeg streamclip.
-Still doesn’t import to After effects.

Opened file in Mpeg streamclip, converted to prores4444

Did VFX in after effects with the prores file.

Not sure what else to do. Looking at the render queue I see that now I can export to DNxHD. wtf AE? You can export but not import DNxHD? You can be a fickle beast sometimes you know that? I’m Using CS5.5
