I am using Cineform Prospect and have a ten minute movie done
in another editing program that I would like to drop into
Premiere, then cut some scenes from it to put effects on
in AE. If the long clip was still in scenes I would send them
as dynamic link but they aren’t. What, if any, is the best
way to do this? Everything I’ve tried resulted in the whole
clip moving to AE and any color work being done to the whole
    clip.

You can trim the clip in AE’s timeline.

That matches what I think I finally figured out. I took the whole
thing into AE, created compositions with the work area on clips
I wanted to change. Is there a better way to trim?
