Activity Forums Adobe After Effects How can I create an animation like this?

In After Effects no. In Cinema 4d we can get there somewhat easily.

    Would something like this suffice?

This is perfect. Is there a project file for this or a tutorial on how to achieve this? That would be super helpful. Thanks so much man!

Sure I can share the project.

    https://we.tl/t-NBR37E2zd7 (Cinema 4d R19.)

A top level algorithm description would be (just so you can understand what was done):

Create a motext with your text, keep curves segments to a minimum to make it close to real time calculation.
    Convert that to objects.
Input it to an Fracture and set to explode + connect.
Add dynamics tag to it and change it to individual elements.
Set the project’s gravity to 0.
Add and Attractor field (with inverted strength) to the dynamic tag’s forces. Set Follow position and rotation to a low value.

Again, thank you so much for this. I am new to Cinema 4d so this is exciting learning a new program. This might such a noob question, but what is the easiest way I can edit that Lorem text you have and add a paragraph of text of my own? I see that some of the text layers are split into individual layers. Should I edit each individual layer or is there a way to edit all text at once?

You just have to type into a motext object, thinking about my workflow now, you may be able to even leave it procedural. Meaning you’re not required to convert to mesh before the Fracture does it’s thing.

Create a motext object, type your text, change font (I reduced the default size and depth by a factor of 10) and drag inside the Fracture. What you’re seeing now inside the Fracture is a result of collapsing to object the motext (shortcut C, by default)

Got it, I think I am almost there. Is there a way to change the sphere into a mouse cursor? Or should I do that in After Effects? Just not sure how to render it out without the sphere causing the movement.

It can be done using Expressions alone and there are scripts for them in the effects files. You can go to an aescripts site toe get more.

But asking us to put months of training into a method nutshell you are already looking to avoid won’t get much response. The plug in route is an option but even that may be too complex for a fast fix.

I ended up tracking the sphere in after effect and replacing it there. It works well! Sorry for all the noob questions. But I’m learning fast. Just need to figure out now how to get my text formatting correct since I want it to
Be centered not to the left. But again. Thanks so much for the project file man. You’re a hero.

[John Mesata] “I ended up tracking the sphere in after effect and replacing it there.”

Please don’t do that! hahaha. If you add an external compositing tag to the sphere, and import the same .c4d project into AE and press extract, all the data would be there. Cinema 4d and AE play along like best buddies.

As for the text if by any means you can’t format it in C4d (which I’ll find hard to believe) you can format in illustrator and export as curves then import and extrude in C4d.

The sphere doesn’t need to render AT ALL, there are shy switches in C4D or you could just delete it. I added a sphere so you could see what would affect the animation.
