  • How can I change clips back to subclips?

    In my current project I want to use bins from projects that I have worked on over the last 15 years. Some of these projects were cut on Avids. The way the bins were logged was one master clip for the entire tape and then each shot was subcliped. The problem is after importing these shots(subclips) they are all master clips now. The producer just wants to encode the tape in one pass not shot by shot. I’ve found I can reconnect the shots (one clip at a time) and then after a lot of warnings my clips are linked to the master clip with accurate in and outs and then I can make them subclips again. This is a lot of tedious work but I do maintain all of our previous logging. This is compounded by the shear volume of material. Thousands of shots across hundreds of bins and in-excess of 40 hours of tape that can only play on a rented machine. If some one knows a more elegant way I’d love to hear it. My Avids are gone so I can’t re-export.

    Thanks for your thoughts
    Bill

    that;s hard work in FCP.

    there is a new app that might help you.
    it can take an XML batch list, and import that into FCP and connect to existing media as subclips.

    <https://www.AssistedEditing.com/exceLogger/>

    so you could export your bins as batch lists,
    then run them through this.
    might work…

    i think XML is somehow the answer.
    or possibly knocking up some sort of automation for QuicKeys,
