how can i achieve an old movie / super 8 effect ?

Well, there are several “ingredients” to ass to your footage to make it look like 8mm.

First, you can use a stobe effect so that it looks like it has less frame per seconds

Than you can bring it in Color to desaturate and colirize or use a filter like Nattress Film effects with the “Old projector” preset or Magic Bullet LOOKS.

You can also add film burn and flare effects by compositing film burns for footage banks like those:

I’ve got a quite a few “Old Projector/film look” filters.. and don’t have time to go through them ATM, just waiting for a render.. then off to teh races to beat a deadline…
Anyway,, All of them do a good job of treating the video colour and adding scratches, flicker and all that, but one stands out for me ’cause it also adds a very realistic gate weave. The old projector/film look just looks fake as can be with out this.. If you are going to buy a plug,, be sure it has gate weave.
FYI Just a touch will do it! it also looks bad when overdone.

Cant remember which one is the good one, as I have a few,, as i mentioned, waiting for a render so I cant look ATM..

Nattress Film Effects is a great bundle of film look filters, with a great old film plug.

Others I have are from CHV, CGM, Eureka, and a few more that escape the top of my head..
Recently installed the Boris suite (BCC and FCC), haven’t played with the film effect filters in there yet, but the Boris effects I have used thus far have been thorough and full featured.

I believe all are available on trial. So give em all a go. Be sure to tweak each one. The default settings on most plug-ins aren’t typically as cool as when manipulated.

when i go to download the CGM Aged Film LE v2.5.7 it says ” there is a default application specified to open document CGM Aged Film LE.sit”

Then below it says choose application.

What should i do?

.sit is a Stuffit file. If you don’t have it download Stuffit Expander.
