  • How can a road be replaced with a washed out bridge?

Posted by Zeno Pierre on April 12, 2010 at 5:32 pm

    Hi,

I saw a BMW commercial a while back showing how they shot video footage of a car driving threw the mountains and had to stop suddenly at abridge that was washed out by rain.

They computer generated the bridge. I would like to know what kind of software or presets allows for such generation?

    Thanks.

There is no “make washed-out bridge” button, or “make dinosaur” button. You grab the original footage of the car and real road, you motion-track that and use photgrammetry to guide the creaqtion of the fake scene in a 3-d program like Maya or Lightwave or Max, etc. then you put the original and the model into a compositing program like AfterEffects, using the tracking data to make the composite track just like the original footage.

“Oh, you wanted to RECORD that?”
