  • Horizontal Streaking in FCPX Export – Codec problem?

Posted by Mo Brady on November 6, 2012 at 1:14 am

I’m having trouble with a file I’m exporting from FCPx. In the exported file, some of the clips have horizontal streaking throughout. This particularly happens when there is a lot of movement in the clip.

The strange thing is I have included multiple clips from the same shoot, but only some of those clips have the horizontal streaking.

I’ve tried exporting the .mov file with every single codec possible in FCPx, but they all export with the same streaks.

The fps doesn’t seem to affect which clips export with horizontal streaking as some of them are 29.97fps and others are 23.98fps. I also thought the horizontal streaking might be occurring because some of the clips are in 720p and others are in 1080p.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Original footage appears to be interlaced. You could try de-interlacing but it can greatly decrease quality depending on your method.

I tried de-interlacing the clip by clicking the “Deinterlace” box in the clip info, but this didn’t change how it looked in the exported file. Are there other ways to deinterlace the clip?
